For anyone considering a first time visit to Turkey, here are some answers to frequently asked questions:

Q Are there any deserts in Turkey?
A No, Turkey is a very lush, green, fertile land. There are no camels either!

Q Are women supressed?
A No, women were allowed to vote in Turkey before the vote was given to women in the UK!!!

Q Do women have to wear headscarves?
A No, they wear them if they want to, often to keep the sun off their heads (or perhaps if they are having a bad hair day!)

Q Can we drink alcohol?
A Yes, and there is no irritating bell for last orders!

Q Is Turkey a strict Muslim country?
A Turkey is the ONLY secular country in the Moslem world. This means that although 90% of its people follow the faith of Islam, all other religions are recognized and may be practiced openly.

It is often forgotten or overlooked that this region boasts a wealth of artifacts from prominent times in the western worlds historical calendar. Mount Ararat, where Noah landed the Ark, is in eastern Turkey. St Nicholas' (Father Christmas) was a monk who sought refuge in a monastry at Demre (2/3 hours drive from Hisaronu). The Virgin Marys last resting place along with that of St John is located at Selcuk near Ephesus. And many, many more.

Q What in general do Turkish people think of world events following September 11 2001?
A Turkish people are generally a very peace loving race. They do get rather passionate about some things though. Terrorism is one - which they loathe in ANY form, from ANY source.

Q How do Turkey view the West?
A Turkey is allied to the west. It is an associate member of the EEC and is working towards full membership. It is a full and active member of NATO.

Q After my first visit to Turkey will I want to return and bring my family and friends?
A YES! YES! YES! and if you stay at Oludeniz Aparts Hotel you will return again, and again and again
