When taking holidays abroad, many tourists are attracted to the prospects of excitement and adventure, not to mention, the "freedom" of travelling independently. Often, however, they choose the "package tour" as this gives them a perception of "security". You've heard the words "we'll ask the rep"...."she'll be there if we need her"............ (ha ha) Now lets get back to the "real" world.......... where a good proportion of your holiday can be spent either "rep-dodging" or "rep-chasing". For instance, she CAN brow beat you into buying tickets for overpriced trips. She CAN bore you rigid with how overworked and underpaid she is, whilst adding to your bar tab, telling you how dreadfully her latest boyfriend is treating her, oh and sorry she wasn't at the welcome meeting, 'cos she got delayed at another hotel.................... !! Regrettably, she CAN'T give you any genuine advice about the area as she's only been here 6 weeks herself and the 3 day "localisation course" didn't cover your query. And she CAN'T translate for you as she has still only been here 6 weeks and was in Spain last summer. This ofcourse is where your hosts come in. We have been living and working here for many years.
